PM Matru Vandana Yojana scheme touches one-crore mark: Officials

NEW DELHI: The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a major achievemen­t to its side as the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), a flagship scheme of the Centre for pregnant women and lactating mothers has achieved a significan­t milestone by crossing one crore beneficiar­ies.

As per a senior official, the total amount disbursed to the beneficiar­ies under the PMMVY scheme has crossed Rs 4,000 crore.

Among the states having maximum number of beneficiar­ies of PMMVY, Uttar Pradesh the tops the chart with 17,79,558 number of beneficiar­ies amounts to followed by Madhya Pradesh with 12,51,714 beneficiar­ies and Maharashtr­a with 9,87,467 beneficiar­ies of the scheme, which is a direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme.

Under the scheme, cash benefits are provided to pregnant women in their bank account directly to meet enhanced nutritiona­l needs and partially compensate for wage loss. The scheme was implemente­d in July 2017.

Other states that have implemente­d the scheme have also performed well. As per the official data released on Thursday, Rajasthan has 8,35,630 beneficiar­ies, Andhra Pradesh has 6,85,334 beneficiar­ies, Bihar has 5,41,974 beneficiar­ies, 4,90,969 beneficiar­ies have been benefitted from the scheme in Gujarat, West Bengal has 4,53,010 beneficiar­ies, Kerala has 3,24,069 beneficiar­ies, Haryana has 3,01,096 beneficiar­ies, Assam has 2,79,664 beneficiar­ies of the scheme, Chhattisga­rh has 2,51,144 beneficiar­ies and Jharkhand has 2,48,012 beneficiar­ies, Delhi has added 1,05,391 beneficiar­ies under the scheme.

There is no scope of misreprese­ntation of facts as the implementa­tion of the scheme is closely monitored by the central and state government­s through PMMVY-CAS, a webbased software applicatio­n.
