Couple robbed at gunpoint in Connaught Place

THE COUPLE WAS INJURED DURING THE INCIDENT AND POLICE HAVE REGISTERED A CASE OF ROBBERY

NEW DELHI: Two bike-borne assailants allegedly robbed a couple at gunpoint in Connaught Place here on Friday morning, police said.

Vinod Singh and his wife, Amrita Bohra, were going to the New Delhi railway station on their scooter when the incident occurred around 5.30 am, the police said.

Two unidentifi­ed motorcycle­borne men chased the couple and robbed a chain of the woman at gunpoint. They fled the spot after the incident, according to police.

“We were going towards K G Marg when two men on a motorcycle started chasing us from behind,” Singh, who works with a hospitalit­y firm at Green Park, said. “They first targeted my wife, but when they could not get hold of any valuables, they went ahead but they followed us again.”

NEW DELHI: A woman, working with IT giant Wipro in Gurugram, and her husband were robbed in posh Janpath road area at Connaught Place.

The couple was injured during the incident. Police have registered a case of robbery in this regard and started their investigat­ion.

One of the victims, identified as Vinod Singh Bhandari (husband), informed the police that he was going with his wife Amrita on scooty to drop her at New Delhi railways station as she was going to her parents' house in Rampur.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (New Delhi) Eish Singhal told that they have registered a case of robbery in this regard.

"Teams have been formed to investigat­e and nab the accused. The special staff has also been tasked to round up suspects," said DCP New Delhi adding that, they are scanning CCTV footages of the area.

Around 5:30 am, when the couple reached Hailey Road red light, two persons on a white motorcycle started chasing them.

"The motorcycle rider was wearing helmet whereas the pillion rider was helmet-less," the victim told investigat­ors. Talking to Millennium

Post, Vinod said that one of them had a pistol which he was showing to them.

"We thought that they might shoot us so my wife Amrita threw her gold chain towards them. Even after picking up the chain from the road, they continued to follow us. They further threatened us to handover the bag to them," said Vinod.

Adding further, Vinod stated that in a bid to save themselves from the robbers, he started riding his scooty on the wrong side of the road.

"Our vehicle skid on the street and my wife received serious injuries," the victim said adding that, he also received injuries during the incident.

As per the victims, the whole incident continued for 10 minutes and no one came to rescue them.

"There were people on the road. Even a bus packed with passengers was passing at that time but no one stopped to help us. After we skid few people stopped and one of them informed the police," they said.

Adding further, they stated that they always thought to help people in distress but in their case, they were left alone on the street of the city.

Elaboratin­g more, the victim said that his wife is a team leader in Wipro in Gurugram. While he works in the hospitalit­y sector. The couple lives in Neb Sarai area.
