Doctor’s wife attacked by snatchers

Upon resisting, the victim was dragged several metres by the snatchers

NEW DELHI: A doctor’s wife was attacked by snatchers on her birthday in Rajouri Garden as the couple was returning home after having dinner in a restaurant on September 28. As soon as the couple reached their car, two snatchers on a scooty tried snatching her purse. The 62-year-old woman Reeta Goswami tried resisting but was dragged several metres by the snatchers.

NEW DELHI: A doctor's wife was attacked by snatchers on her birthday in Rajouri garden as the couple was returning home after having dinner in a restaurant.

As soon as the couple reached to their car, two snatchers on a scooty tried snatching the woman's purse. Though she tried resisting but was dragged several meters by the snatchers.

The snatchers fled with the purse leaving the injured woman behind. She was immediatel­y admitted to the hospital by her husband. The woman has suffered fractures in her hand and leg and is admitted to the hospital.

The incident happened on September 28 when both Doctor Sudhir Goswami and his wife Reeta Goswami planned for an outing to celebrate Reeta's birthday.

However, they did not know that a happy celebratio­n would have such a tragic end which would leave Reeta Goswami with multiple fractures and admitted to the hospital.

As the couple reached their car, two men on scooty tried snatching the purse of Doctor Sudhir's wife which she had on her shoulders.

The sudden jerk made the elderly woman fall.

The impact was so much that she got a fracture in her shoulder and was operated upon in the hospital where she was immediatel­y rushed by her husband. According to the victim's husband, the purse had 13 thousand cash, mobile phone and debit and credit cards. The police had registered a case and is scanning the CCTV around the area to identify the accused.

The incident comes a week after a woman journalist was dragged out of a moving auto in Delhi's Chitranjan park following which she suffered fracture along with multiple stitches.

On September 20, a couple on a scooter was chased by gun-wielding bike-borne snatchers in New Delhi KG Marg which made them fall and injure themselves.

The woman also suffered a fracture on her shoulder. Though Delhi Police is trying to curb the snatching incidents but snatchers seems to be striking at will.

“Analysis of crime showed that a maximum number of snatching robberies take place by criminals who are on motorcycle­s. Bikers in a certain age group are specifical­ly checked by police staff on the roads,” said a senior police officer.
