CRACKDOWN ON ONION HOARDING

NEW DELHI: Delhi Government on Friday directed the concerned agencies to intensify their field inspection­s for ensuring that there is no hoarding, black marketing and profiteeri­ng of onions here. In a review meeting, Delhi Food and Civil Supplies Minister Imran Hussain directed the enforcemen­t teams of department­s from Agricultur­al produce market committee (APMC), Delhi Agricultur­al Marketing Board Recruitmen­t (DAMB), Revenue Department, to make regular field inspection­s and carry out enforcemen­t activities in order to check any instance of hoarding, black-marketing and profiteeri­ng.

The enforcemen­t teams have also been asked to check the implementa­tion of stock limits prescribed for the onion and violators may strictly be proceeded against as per provisions of law. The state food minister ordered the agencies to keep a constant watch for irregular and unusual activities so that the wholesaler­s, middlemen, commission­ed agents do not take advantage of the current onion situation in Delhi.

The agencies were asked to work in coordinati­on with each other to ensure timely, regular and adequate supply of onion to all the designated 390 Fair Price Shops (FPS) and the mobile vans engaged for sale of onion in all the 70 Assembly Constituen­cies of Delhi. In the meeting, it was also pointed out that the general public is showing keen interest in the purchase of onions through designated FPS and mobile vans.
