DCSP will visit martyrs’ families to honour them: Police chief

NEW DELHI: The Commission­er of Delhi Police Amulya Patnaik has directed Deputy Commission­ers of Police to visit the families of cops who were killed in the line of duty express gratitude for their services before Police Commemorat­ion Day.

Observed on October 21Police Commemorat­ion Day remembers the sacrifices of policemen who died in the line of duty.

Delhi Police Commission­er Amulya Patnaik told

that for the last three years, Delhi Police officials are visiting the families of martyrs.

"It is a token of gratitude for their services and dedication. District DCSP have been asked to use this occasion and honour their families," said Amulya Patnaik.

Police sources said that in the past, a letter was also sent from the office of the Commission­er of Police on special efforts to redress the grievances of martyrs' widows.

The earlier letter from the Commission­er of Police had directed concerned DCSP to visit the residence of each police personnel who was killed/died on duty and meet their widows/kins a week prior to the Commemorat­ion Day Parade to know about their welfare and address any other areas of concern and possible assistance from the police department.

Sources further said that DCSP should also check whether the widow, kin or legal heir of the martyrs have received their dues like pensionary benefits (DCRG, GPF balance, leave encashment, insurance money, etc.) or their cases are pending for compassion­ate appointmen­t.

DCSP are required to take action at their level to redress their grievances to the extent possible and point out action to be taken by Police Headquarte­rs (PHQ).

Martyrs killed in line of duty

In January, a head constable of the Delhi Police's special cell Rajpal Kasana died a week after he was injured in a road mishap on the Barapullah elevated corridor while chasing a gunrunner.

In November 2018, a 48 years old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jitender Singh died after he was hit by a truck driven at high speed in South Delhi's Dhaulakuan area.
