Boost to Swacchta Abhiyan: CCL signs MOU to build toilets at 200 rly stations in J'khand

RANCHI: In a major boost to the cleanlines­s mission, “Swacchta Abhiyan”, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Ranchi, signed a Tripartite Mouwith South Eastern Railways and RITES for building toilet blocks at 200 Railway stations spread across Jharkhand.

Each toilet blockwill have a provision for 7 toilets – 3 for women, 3 for men and most importantl­y 1 for divyangs. The stations are spread across the remotest part of the state in difficult terrains and forest areas. We have taken up this herculean taskunder the dynamic leadership of Gopal Singh, CMD CCL. This is one of the many initiative­s started off in last few years for social transforma­tion by the company.

GM (CSR), CCL A K Singh signed the MOU award on behalf of CCL along with P R Kumar, GM, RITES and Abhijit Rai, Planning & Design Engineer, SE Railways on October 1 2019. These toilets will be built at the cost of Rs 44 Crore.

At the time, when Railway Ministry under the able guidance of Minister Piyush Goyal has transforme­d major Railway stations with beautifica­tion, modernizat­ion and cleanlines­s drive, this MOU will give a shot in the arm to the mission. CCL has contribute­d substantia­lly to the “Swacchta Abhiyan” and played a role in creating an “Open Defecation Free (ODF)” India. The company has built almost 12,000 toilets across 4 states namely Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The company has launched a series of welfare schemes, better known as “Kayakalp Yojana” in the field of sports, education, health, skill developmen­t, drinking water etc. across 8 districts of Jharkhand.

CCL as a responsibl­e corporate citizen is committed towards the inclusive growth. The company has taken up several initiative­s for young and talented children and youths of scheduled tribes in the field of Sports.

While Sports Academy has been a flagship scheme, but in addition to it, CCL has identified close to 250 football teams in its command area to promote Sports in the rural regions of Jharkhand. In Simdega, for the past two years CCL has been organizing junior boys & girls Hockey tournament in which maximum participat­ion has been from the tribal community. Similarly, CCL has been regularly organizing various tournament­s, to promote sports spirit and identify the hidden talent from these tribal regions. Conceptual­ized by Minister of Coal and Railway, Piyush Goyal and Chief Minister, Jharkhand, Raghubar Das, the academy started in July 2016. Sports Academy has come of age in very short span of time.
