Three persons involved in over 100 cases of snatching held

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Sunday said that they have arrested three criminals who were involved in more than 100 cases of highway snatching in the National Capital.

The accused used to sell snatched mobile phones in another, from where these items were being sent to a foreign country. Police identified the accused as Raja, Ashu and Sheikh Nasir. They were arrested near Mayapuri Chowk.

"The accused were nabbed on the scooty. On checking, the vehicle was found to be stolen from Adarsh Nagar area," police said. Two stolen motorcycle­s, as many scooters and 17 snatched mobile phones were recovered from them, the police said, adding that efforts were being made to recover more snatched mobile phones.

Adding further, an officer said that these snatchers have confessed their involvemen­t in more than a hundred cases of Highway snatching. Deputy Commission­er of Police (West) Deepak Purohit said that being the capital of our country, even the small crimes get the attention of not only police brass but also everyone. keeping in view of snatching incidents in the area, a special anti-snatching picket was installed near Mayapuri Depot on Saturday to check vehicles coming from Mayapuri Chowk towards Sagarpur to curb street crimes.

Police said that the accused Raja came in touch with bad elements and started having drugs, smack and alcohol. He with his associates started steeling articles and other things for their daily need and drugs. "All three accused first steal motorcycle or scooty. Then on that vehicle, they snatch mobile phones and sell it in another state," police said. The another accused Sheikh Nasir works as mechanic of four wheeler in Kamla Market.

In another case, the West Delhi Police arrested one auto lifter Ravi Mukesh (34). His previous involvemen­t in more than 21 criminal cases. The accused is a bad character of Aman Vihar police station. Eight cars , four car locking systems and four ECM of car have been recovered from him.

According to Delhi Police, they have taken several measures in the last two years or so to control street crime. Last week Delhi Police questioned 37,175 suspects/ruffians, out of whom 5,933 were arrested under preventive measures, while 3,870 vehicles were impounded during the drive. During the crackdown on antisocial elements, 30 robbers and 11 snatchers have been arrested in the last 3-4 days.
