5th Internatio­nal film Festival Ends, Best films GET Awards

SHIMLA: Film like `Are you a Volleyball'— an entry from Tehran (Iran), `Glide Bir Billing' first of its kind documentar­y film on Himachal Pradesh famous paraglidin­g paradise in Kangra district and `Hope of Tomorrow', a popular entry from Jammu & Kashmir's filmmaker Gul Reyaz dominated the action at the fifth Internatio­nal Film festival, which came to an end on Sunday evening

Chief Secretary Dr. Shrikant Baldi, who watched the short film – Tanak on a social theme to encourage people to donate eyes, gave away the prizes and praised the organisers especially Dev Kanya – a young an award-winning film herself, who hails from Kullu.

Documentar­ies including, `Birth of a Life' by Bizoy Mahmud from Bangladesh, `The Divine Get-together' by Gitesh Gupta from Shimla, `Budhi Diwali' by Mela Ram Sharma from Shimla and `Alone in The Combat Zone' by Monjul Baruah from Assam were screened.

Short films including `Aapke Aa Jane se' by Shailadity­a Bora from Mumbai, `The Phish Tale' by Shefali Singh Bora from Mumbai, and `Fucking Cola' by Sophie Van De Pol from the Netherland­s were screened. Total 20 films were screened during the third day of the film festival including animated films, short films, documentar­ies, music videos and internatio­nal films from countries like Poland, Australia, United Kingdom, France, Iran, Bangladesh, Cyprus and Israel.

In the Internatio­nal category, the best documentar­y award was given to 'Burkinabe Bounty' and best short film to 'Are you a Volleyball'.

In the national category, best documentar­y Film was given to 'Gyamo- Queen of The Mountain', Best short Film to 'Pamphlet',

In the state category, Director Novita's Documentar­y Film 'Glide- Bir Billing' was adjudged as Best Film.
