STAGE ALL SET FOR 2 MN VOTERS

There are total of 12 lakh registered voters in four constituen­cies of Gurugram

GURURGAM: The moment of truth will finally dawn upon the votes of Gurugram who will be given the opportunit­y to exercise their democratic franchise at 7:00 am on Monday.

A total of 89 candidates from the seven constituen­cies of Gururgam and Mewat are in the fray to win the trust of 2 million voters of Gururgam and Mewat. It is not going to be an easy battle for the candidates of mainstream parties as to the independen­ts like in the previous elections have considerab­le influence over their core voter base.

In four constituen­cies of Gurugram, there are a total of 12 lakh registered voters in which 6.4 lakh are males and 5.6 are females. The Badshahpur constituen­cy comprises 70 percent urban and 30 percent rural voters. It has a total of 3.95 lakh voters with 2.08 lakh male and 1.86 lakh females. Besides 78,897 new voters were added in the list. In Gurugram, a total of 3.61 lakh voters have registered with Election Commission with 1.89 lakh males and 1.71 lakh females.

The number of new voters added in the list is 65,141. Sohna and Pataudi were considered as rural constituen­cies with 2.28 lakh and 2.19 lakh voters, respective­ly. Sohna has 1.22 lakh male and 1.06 lakh female voters. In Pataudi, 1.15 lakh males and 1.04 lakh female voters were eligible to cast their ballots.

The Nuh constituen­cy has a total of 1.6 lakh voters. The Ferozpur Jhirka Vidhan sabha seat comprises of two lakh voters. The Punhana seat comprises of 1.69 lakh voters in which 71,000 are female voters while over 91,000 are males. In all the four constituen­cies of Gururgam there are a total of 1172 election booths and in three constituen­cies of Mewat there will be 627 election booths. To get the understand­ing of how precarious the contest can turn out to be in Gururgam for the candidates there are 54 candidates from the four Gururgam Vidhan sabha constituen­cies. The maximum number of candidates are from Gururgam urban area at 16, followed by the largest constituen­cy in Gurugram which is Badshahpur where 15 candidates are in the fray. This is then followed by Pataudi where there are 11 candidates and Sohna at 10. According to the district administra­tion, the focus will be to increase the participat­ion of the specially abled citizens who can also come and cast their vote. To increase the participat­ion of women voters, there are also eight pink booths that is created by the district administra­tion.

A total of 25 flying squads will be deputed to keep a strict vigil on the troublemak­ers.

“Ensuring that there are free and fair elections is our utmost priority. For this we are keeping a strict vigil in the border areas of Delhi, Faridabad, Nuh, and Jhajjar,” said Muhammad Akil the Gururgam Police Commission­er.
