Faridabad also set to participat­e in democratic exercise

FARIDABAD: Faridabad is the largest constituen­cy in Haryana. As the South Haryana constituen­cy prepares to undertake the process of its fourteenth assembly elections voters hope that their democratic franchise will also help in restoring the district's lost glory. Faridabad has a total population of 1.7 million voters.

In this 9.6 lakh voters will be males and 7.4 lakh voters females. The major segment of voters includes two lakh Gujjars, 2.8 lakh Jats. 1.5 lakh Meos and 4 lakh voters from SC/ST category. There are also a sizeable number of Punjabi voters, most of whom made Faridabad after being displaced from Western Punjab.

There are a total of 11352 elections booths. Some of the key seats that come under the Faridabad constituen­cy seat are Prithla, Faridabad NIT, Badhkal, Ballabhgar­h, Faridabad urban area, Tigaon which is the largest seat in Faridabad constituen­cy. In addition to Faridabad, there are also 685 booths in Palwal

In 2014 elections the BJP fielded Vipul Goel from the Faridabad who won over Anand Kaushik from Faridabad with a margin of over 72,000 votes.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not renew the ticket to its industries minister and MLA from Faridabad Vipul Goel, he will be replaced by Narendra Gupta who is again a long-time party worker.

Narendra Gupta who works as an advocate will be fighting his first assembly election. He is expected to be given a tough competitio­n by Lakhan Kumar Singla from the Indian National Congress.

Just like Gurugram independen­ts even in Faridabad hold influence over their core voter base. In all, there are 15 candidates that are fighting from the Faridabad seat.

In the Lok Sabha elections one of the booths at Palwal got a bad name after the election observer was seen influencin­g two women voter to vote for the BJP.

This time, the measures have been taken to strengthen the video and static surveillan­ce to ensure that there is no such activities.
