NEW DELHI: In an attempt to stop the practice of uncontrolled use of allopathic antibiotics, the researchers have found an ayurvedic alternative to antibiotics to be used to treat bacterial and fungal infections.

According to a study conducted by AIIMS Bhopal, it has been found that ayurvedic antibiotics are proving a great substitute to the modern drug.

“An ayurvedic antibiotic drug Fifatrol is proving effective in curing major bacterial infections as herbal medicine has the efficacy to cure the infections caused by staphylococcus species of bacteria,” said Samran Singh, the director of AIIMS Bhopal.

In its research, the AIIMS Bhopal has found that the herbal drug is powerful to fight against bacterias of staphylococcus species that cause fever, cold and cough, skill diseases, etc. Beside these, the drug was also found suitable in controlling the spread of infectious diseases caused due to echolalia, pneumonia, Klebsiella aerogenes, etc.

Highlighting the research, the AIIMS Bhopal director said, “As per the trend, the ayurvedic medicines generally increase immunity, but Fifatrol has sown very promising results against bacteria. We are doing further research to arrive at the final result.”

Singh, who is also head of the researcher team, further said, “Staphylococcus bacteria is responsible for skin, respiratory and stomach infections. In people who have a weak immune system, its infection can also be fatal.”

The Fifatrol drug, which is manufactured by AIMIL Pharmaceutical, is an anti-microbial solution prepared from 13 herbs in which the major share of five herbs and the fraction of eight herbs have been added.

The herbs like sudarshan vati, sanjeevani vati, godanti bhasma, tribhuvan kirti ras and mrityunjay ras, tulsi, kutki, chirayata, motha, giloy, daruhaldi, karanja and appamarg have been used to manufacture the ayurvedic antibiotics.
