Four DU students thrashed by bouncers in Mukherjee Nagar

NEW DELHI: Four Delhi University students were allegedly beaten up by bouncers at a cafe over music in Northwest Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar area. Police have registered a case in this regard.

The injured were identified as, Samar, Mukul, Abhigyaann and Mayank, all hail from Purvanchal area. According to police, they have gone to a cafe in Hudson Lane to celebrate the birthday party. During the celebratio­n, a scuffle broke out between the victims and bouncers of the cafe for raising the music, following which the accused started beating them, a senior police officer said, adding that the victims sustained minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.

Deputy Commission­er of Police (Northwest) Vijayanta Arya said that they have registered a case and investigat­ion is going on. "We have identified the attackers in the case. They will be arrested soon," said DCP Arya. As soon as the police were informed about the incident they reached the spot and started their investigat­ion. Several persons were questioned in this regard to get a further clue. The staff also scanned the CCTV footages of the spot to check the sequence of event. On the complaint of Samar, a case under sections 323 (punishment for voluntaril­y causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) registered at Mukherjee Nagar police stations.

The owner of the cafe did not do the verificati­on of his employees, including the bouncers, following which a case has been registered against him also, police added. Later a protest also held in Mukherjee Nagar area. "Traffic at the Kingsway Camp Chowk was disrupted due to student sit-in demonstrat­ion," tweeted Delhi Traffic Police. The city police also deployed adequate staff in the area.
