NEW DELHI: The Delhi government thanked and congratulated the people of Delhi for the high level of response to the third series of Odd-even scheme in its effort to curb pollution in the city. The Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot in a press conference thanked the people of Delhi for their cooperation.

Deputy CM said, “The positive results show that if people want, everything is possible. The first day of the third series of the Odd-even scheme implemented in the city was very successful.” “Since it was the first day, directions were given to the officials to be little lenient, try to make people understand and persuade them to comply with. I interacted with many officials and traffic policemen and they testified that the response was very positive. As per the latest reports, only 192 challans were issued for violations so far. Traffic police issued 170 Challans, Transport and Enforcement departments 15 and SDMS on road 7,” added Sisodia.

The Deputy CM said, “Every day in Delhi, there are 30 lakh vehicles — private cars on road and of which nearly half — 15 lakh vehicles are on road on Monday. 100 or 200 violations amongst 15 lakh vehicles in such a big city is not a big deal. We can say that people of Delhi responded to this initiative with 100 percent compliance. This is a big achievement.”

“Yesterday (Sunday), the air quality index was measured up to 1,200 and 1,600 as per data from government with the average being 800. On Monday morning, the PM 2.5 levels was 562; and in the afternoon at 2 pm it was 152. It is a major sign of controlling the pollution. I am not saying that it is only due to Odd-even scheme as there are many factors, but undoubtedly this initiative also contributed immensely to curb pollution in Delhi” said Sisodia.

The AAP senior leader Sanjay Singh also congratulated the people of Delhi for their cooperation and slammed the BJP for violating the Odd-even scheme.

“Starting from MP Vijay Goel to Delhi BJP chief MP Manoj Tiwari they have completely opposed the efforts of the Delhi government to curb pollution. They have shared pictures of garbage burning on social media and misled people. Today, when the Delhi government has come up with the Odd-even scheme and the people of Delhi are cooperating too but Vijay Goel came out of his house driving an odd number car violating the rules of odd-even,” said the Senior AAP leader.
