GURUGRAM: Monday proved to be a slightly better day for residents of Gurugram. After registering air quality levels at a severe level for three days ins a row, air quality improved to very poor levels in Gurugram.

Even though the thick haze of cover that had engulfed the city for a long time cleared there was still a high concentration of poisonous particulate matters suspended in the city.

According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) the particulate matter of 2.5 microns hovered at the levels of 350 -370 micrograms per cubic meter way above the safety limit of 60 as prescribed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

There was also a high concentration of other poisonous concentrations that included nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and sulphur dioxide. Situation was more or less similar in the industrial township of Manesar where the PM2.5 levels were recorded at 323-340 micrograms per cubic meter.

The industrial township had recently come into headlines after German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited one of the German companies located in the area.

She visited Manesar at a time when the air quality levels had reached the severe level category.

On its part, the official claim to be taking steps to ensure that the situation of air quality does not deteriorate further.

Some of the steps that have been taken by the district administration include mechanized cleaning of the roads so that dust pollution can be reduced. Work to improve the road and transport infrastructure and steps to reduce traffic congestion is also said to have been taken.

Moreover, taking note of the deadly air pollution levels the Gururgam administration had also declared for the schools in the city till November 5.

Notably, Gurugram was recently declared as the most polluted city in the world by a

leading NGO this year.
