SDMC proposes profession­al tax in budget

NEW DELHI: SDMC Commission­er Gyanesh Bharti on Friday proposed a levy of profession­al tax as he presented the budget for 2019-20. As per the proposal, residents whose income is Rs 20,000 or more will have to pay Rs 100 and those earning Rs 50,000 or more will pay Rs 200 as profession­al tax.

Moreover, in a move to boost its revenue, the SDMC Commission­er also proposed to increase house tax by merging three categories of residentia­l and non-residentia­l colonies into two now.

Residentia­l properties are divided into three categories such as A-B, C-D-E and FGH, a senior SDMC official said, adding that earlier, residents used to pay 12, 11 and 7 per cent house tax respective­ly but with the proposal; the categories A-B-C-D-E will be merged together and residents will now have to pay12 percent as house tax.similarly, non-residentia­l commercial properties after the merger of two categories of property will pay 15 percent as tax. Earlier, properties in category C-D-E used to pay 10 percent while owners of E-F-G category paid 12 percent tax.

Presenting budget estimates of Rs 5245.63 for the financial year 2019-20 on Friday, the SDMC Commission­er proposed to merge non- residentia­l properties like guest houses, sarai, lodges; restaurant­s without bars in the category of special non- commercial properties. It is also proposed that they will pay a 20 percent house tax on their annual value. The Commission­er also laid emphasis on solar power, education, sanitation, waste segregatio­n and issuing online birth and death certificat­es free of cost during his speech. Bharti said that presently waste segregatio­n is being done in 40 wards and it will be extended to other remaining wards.he proposed spending 18.99 percent on education, 26.27 percent on sanitation, 13.79 percent on engineerin­g and 6.74 percent on health, out of the total budget.

The Commission­er also said that the facility of insurance cover to the daily wage worker and contractua­l employees under Prime Minister Jiowan Jyoti Bima Yojana will also be provided.
