To tackling terror

It is known too well that terrorism is developed with meticulous planning and strategy and it is known and accepted worldwide that terror groups are spawned in situations where there is a political vacuum. Irrespective of how the political vacuum comes about, the phenomena of terrorism is such that even the covert supporters of it are not safe from it. It is only too obvious that terrorism does not spring up in one day and the quantum of resources that go into making it the dreaded and despicable force that it is, is after laa but resources that could be used to make something much better. With resources diverted for terror activities, economies stand to lose massively and are deprived of possible development that would go a long way in making nations and societies prosperous. With counter-terrorism as a key agenda of the BRICS summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi brought to highlight a very relevant aspect that terrorism has so far caused up to $1 trillion loss to global economy. Terror attacks have claimed around 2.25 lakh people and caused severe damage to societies many of which seem beyond repair and renewal. Acknowledging that terrorism is the “biggest threat” to development, peace, and prosperity, the Indian Prime Minister made an emphatic point in Brazil for the 11th BRICS Summit, saying that “According to some estimates, the economic growth of developing nations has decreased by 1.5 per cent due to terrorism”. Nations coming together for the common aim for containing terrorism is a necessary initiative which also establishes that it is the responsibility of all countries to prevent terror financing and activities including those emerging from their territories. It is thus relevant to consolidate support internationally and act on the urgent need to bring terrorism under control.
