NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) administration on Monday said that about 82 percent of students have cleared their hostel dues for winter registration, even as the Students' Union (JNUSU) called for a continued boycott of the registration.

“Out of 8,500 students at JNU, 82 per cent of students have cleared their hostel dues for winter registration as on Monday,” said the administration.

However, the administration a few days back had stated that out of the 8500 students about 6450 use hostel facility and the rest are day scholars.

“The remaining students are also expected to complete their registration process since the registration is still open with a late fee. The University is putting every effort to help the willing students in registering for the winter semester,” said the Vice-chancellor in his statement.

He also added that the campus is peaceful and “active in pursuing academic activities.”

Meanwhile, the VC informed that this year for the first time, the NCC cadets of the University will be participating in a parade at the venue of flag hoisting during the Republic Day celebrations at JNU.

Meanwhile, JNUSU on Sunday urged the students to boycott the registration and assured the students that they will be approaching the High Court for legal measures against IHA. The students union has also been demanding the resignation of VC.

Even as the University is brimming with such activities the students have been also actively participating in the protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC). On Monday many students were seen participating in a march from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar against the bill.

The march was led by former JNU Student Union (JNUSU) president Sai Balaji and activist and former student of the university Umar Khalid.
