215 HELD IN NORTH-EAST VIOLENCE

According to police, this is the highest number of arrest in any riot case in Delhi so far

NEW DELHI: In the recent violence in north-east Delhi, which has resulted in the death of more than 50 persons, the Delhi Police claims to have made significan­t progress. Many have been arrested and detained and some murder cases have been solved too.

The Delhi Police have registered a total of 712 FIRS and arrested over 215 people so far in connection with the riots in north-east Delhi, which left over 50 dead and many injured. Delhi Police spokespers­on MS Randhawa said that 51 cases have been registered under Arms Act and 54 arrests have been made in this regard so far. According to the Delhi Police, this is the highest number of arrest in any riot case in Delhi so far. More than 3,000 persons have been detained in connection with the violence so far.

Two brothers held for 85-year-old Akbari’s murder

Two brothers identified as Arun and Varun Kumar have been arrested by the Delhi Police in connection with the murder case of 85-year-old Akbari, whose body was found in a house that was set on fire in Gamri extention in north-east Delhi. Both the accused are local residents of Gamri village. Police said that they have been identified through the video clippings and multiple eyewitness­es. Both the accused are in their early twenties and were part of the mob that set the house on fire.

Seven held in Head Constable Rattan Lal murder

Seven people have been arrested in connection with the death of a Delhi Police head constable during clashes over the new citizenshi­p law in north-east district last month, police said on Thursday. Head constable Ratan Lal died of bullet injuries in the clashes in north-east Delhi on February 24. It emerged during investigat­ion that the spot where the incident took place was the venue for an anti-caa protest at Chand Bagh. The accused have been identified as Saleem Mallik, Jalaluddin, Ayub, Yunus, Arif, Danish and Saleem. All of them are residents of Delhi except Danish, who is from Ghaziabad.

4 arrested in four murders

The Police also arrested four people in connection with bodies of four people recovered from a drain in riot-hit north-east Delhi. The two brothers Amir and Hashim were murdered and their bodies were recovered from a drain in Gokulpuri. Another two Aqil and Musharraf were also murdered by the rioters. The arrested accused are Pankaj, Lokesh, Sumit and Ankit.

1 held in Ankit Murder case

One more has been held by the Special cell of the Delhi police in connection with the murder case of IB staffer Ankit Sharma. The accused has been identified as Salman, a resident of Nand Nagri.

Facial recognitio­n to recognise ‘Outsiders’

The police spokespers­on said they have made progress in several cases of murder and arson with the help of face recognitio­n and other technical evidence. More than 300 ‘Outsiders' have been ascertaine­d and the search is on. The recognitio­n was done with the help of voter id and driving licence. More arrests are likely to take place.
