Over `10 crore compensati­on to riot victims

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government in a Cabinet meeting had agreed to provide compensati­on to victims of damaged residentia­l units in riot-affected areas of north-east Delhi. By March 15 the Aap-led government has given out Rs 10,09,68,908 to 794 people who

lost their livelihood, homes or

loved ones. According to the data released by government officials over a sum of Rs 10 crore has been given out to the people as compensati­on so far. This compensati­on includes household damages, loss of life in the riot, injury, theft and vandalism.

The compensati­on does not include the Rs one crore promised to IB officer, Ankit Lal’s family. Over Rs 10 crore has been given out only to civilians.

The government has received nine forms for houses that have been completely damaged and all of which have received full compensati­on. Under the housing category, 214 forms were submitted for substantia­l damages of which 180 have been fully compensate­d. There are 160 forms for houses with minor damages of which 113 have received full compensati­on.

An official working with the government said, “The compensati­on for the remaining houses which includes — substantia­l and minor damages — will be provided within a week.”

Under the category of shops that were damaged in the targeted violence in north-east

Delhi, 708 forms have been submitted of which 281 have received full compensati­on. 41 forms have been submitted under the death in a family in the riots of which 39 have received full compensati­on and two have received a partial amount. Severe injury forms are 79 and all of which have received the full amount. Similarly, forms for minor injuries are 64 and all have been fully compensate­d.

Out of the eight forms received for damages in jhugggies all of them have been completely compensate­d. Four e-rickshaws, two scooty, and 15 animal loss had been reported for damages and all of them have received full compensati­on.

“Only in cases of loot and theft we require a copy of the

FIR as it comes under Delhi Police. In other cases of injury the SDM takes a decision on the spot and there is no requiremen­t of an FIR,” the official added.

Several instances of theft and vandalism of commercial establishm­ents with no insurance had also been brought to notice, which does not include fire or severe damage to the property.

The Aap-led Government has provided a compensati­on of Rs. 1 lakh for cases of complete theft or looting or vandalism of residentia­l units, and Rs. 50,000 for partial looting and theft. It was also decided to include “looting or theft” in the category of damage to uninsured commercial property or loss of articles. However, in such cases, the furnishing of a copy of FIR has been made mandatory.
