NO. OF LIQUOR TRAFFICKIN­G CASES RISES on pretext of essential commoditie­s

NEW DELHI: On the pretext of essential commoditie­s, criminals are trying to traffic liquor. In one of the recent cases, the Delhi Police on Wednesday said that they have caught a vehicle in which 3,360 quarter of illicit liquor was found hidden inside vegetables.

According to police, as per the directions of PHQ, the basic essential services like food, milk vegetables have been exempted of the lockdown. Deputy Commission­er of Police (Outer-north) Gaurav Sharma said that they received an input that vehicles filled with vegetables are being used to hide and transport illicit

He added that on removing the pile of vegetables, 70 cartons containing 3,360 quarters of illicit liquor were found in the vehicle. Meanwhile from South Delhi, a driver was booked for transporti­ng seven

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police detained 4,053 people for vio

lation of lockdown in Delhi. The law enforcemen­t agency received 8,303 calls on its emergency helpline number.

According to the data, till 5 p.m. as many as 249 cases were registered under Section 188 of IPC and 515 vehicles were impounded under 66 DP Act. Around 1,022 movement passes were issued on Wednesday.

According to police, the data revealed that from 2 p.m. of March 31 to 2 p.m. of April 1, a total 1,053 calls have been received on their helpline number 23469526. “About 160 calls were related to outside Delhi, which has been referred to respective state helpline numbers. At least 29 calls were received related to no food, no money, which have been forwarded to NGOS for direct relief at their addresses.

The data further revealed that 27 calls were received regarding medical issues and have been resolved through proper guidance to proceed in case of such emergencie­s.
