Delhi government gives Rs 5K each to over 30K constructi­on workers

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has initiated the process of giving assistance of Rs 5,000 to the daily wage

labourers associated with the constructi­on work during the lockdown. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had ear

lier announced that the Delhi government would be giving this assistance amount to the

labourers through the Labour Welfare Board.

The money was transferre­d directly to the account of the labourers. The Delhi government has released Rs 5,000 assistance amount for 32,358 registered workers on March 31. A total amount of Rs16.18 crore has been given to the registered constructi­on workers of Delhi. The Delhi government will soon give the assistance amount to nearly 9,000 workers as well those whose applicatio­ns are still pending. A total amount of Rs 4.50 crore will be disbursed in this regard.

Moreover, pension of 200 constructi­on workers has also been released up to March 31 in view of COVID-19 outbreak.

Around 9,149 daily wage

labourers have not been registered under the board yet but the process of registrati­on of all the labourers is underway.

Amid the surge in cases of Coronaviru­s in Delhi, the CM announced measures like doubling pension under various pension schemes of the Delhi government, free ration for 72

lakh beneficiar­ies and free food in the night shelters across the city.

The government has also decided to provide 7.5 kilos free rations to 72 lakh beneficiar­ies attached to ration scheme for one month. Ear

lier, wheat was available at Rs 2 per kg, rice at Rs 3 per kg and sugar at Rs 13 per kg. The Delhi government has also decided to double the pension under the widow pension scheme for 2.5 lakh beneficiar­ies, the oldage pension scheme for five

lakh beneficiar­ies and disability pension scheme for one lakh beneficiar­ies. The beneficiar­ies have already started getting the amount.
