DRDO develops bio-suit, portable sanitisation tool
NEW DELHI: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a new bio-suit with seam sealing glue to keep all the health care professionals involved in the care of Covid19 patients safe from the deadly virus.
According to DRDO'S official release, the bio-suit has been developed with the help of the industry. “Several DRDO scientists have applied their expertise in the field of coating, textile and nanotechnology to come up with the personal protective equipment (PPE) with a specific type of fabric coating,” it said.
“The bio-suit was then put through several rigorous testing processes for textile parameters and protection against synthetic blood to check its protection level,” it said, adding that the testing revealed that the protection provided against synthetic blood exceeds the criteria defined for body suits by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“Currently, Kusumgarh industries is producing the raw material- the coating material. The complete suit is being manufactured by another vendor. At present, the production capacity is 7,000 suits per day,” the
DRDO said in its statement.
The DRDO has also developed portable sanitisation equipment for spraying decontamination solution consisting of 1 per cent hypochlorite (HYPO) solution for sanitisation of suspected area. The portable system — developed by CFEES, Delhi — can be carried by the operator as a backpack.
The Defence Ministry institute has also developed trolley mounted large area sanitization equipment with a tank capacity of 50 litres and lancing (spray) distance of 12-15m. It would be used for disinfecting hospitals, malls, airports, metro stations, isolation areas, quarantine centres and high-risk residential areas, the DDRO release stated.
The DRDO has provided two units of trolly mounted sanitisation machines to Delhi Police.
