3,747 detained for lockdown violations

NEW DELHI: More than 160 cases were registered and 3,747 people detained in Delhi on Saturday for violating government orders during the lockdown imposed due to coronaviru­s outbreak, police said.

According to the data shared by the police, 167 cases were registered under section 188 (for disobedien­ce to order duly promulgate­d by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code till 5pm.

A total of 3,747 people have been detained under Section 65 (persons bound to comply with reasonable directions of police officers) and 388 vehicles have been impounded under Section 66 of the Delhi Police Act, they stated.

A total of 858 movement passes have been issued, police said.

After PM Narendra Modi requested Indians to light candles, lamps or mobile torches at 9 pm Sunday for nine minutes. Delhi Fire Services are on the alert to ensure that there is no untoward fire incident in the city. “We have alerted all our officials,” said DFS chief Atul Garg.

South East District to spread awareness amongst the public about COVID-19. DCP (South East) RP Meena said that regular mobile patrolling will be conducted in the area and announceme­nts will be made continuous­ly to advise and warn the people to follow the lock down and remain at home and to adopt personal hygiene. “Strict checking shall be done by these bikes at the border pickets, roads & inside the streets within the city in every Police station area to ensure that no gathering or movement takes place in contravent­ion of the prohibitor­y order,” he said.
