41 people from same building in Kapashera test +ve for COVID-19

NEW DELHI: Forty one people residing in a building in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera area tested positive for coronaviru­s on Saturday, an official said. A case of COVID-19 had been reported from the building situated in theke wali gali on April 18, the official said.

“Keeping in mind the high density of population in this particular building, the district administra­tion took the proactive decision of sealing and containing the building on April 19,” official said.

Samples were collected of all residents in the building and sent to the National institute of Biological­s (NIB) in Noida.

“Out of total samples collected from the building, some reports have come on Saturday and 41 have tested positive for COVID-19,” the official said.

The tests were conducted 13 days ago and the results were delayed due to issues of blockade at Delhi-noida border and pendency backlog at NIB Noida, according to officials.

“As all the individual­s are asymptomat­ic and results are 13 days old, district administra­tion South West is conducting re-test on Sunday and Monday to assess the present status of all positive cases,” said the official. Last month, a private secretary of southwest District Magistrate Rahul Singh had tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the DM to go into self-isolation.

Meanwhile, four new cases have also emerged from Dwarka sector — 4. At Pushpanjal­i Apartments, the positive cases were found, after which the society was sealed.

However, District Magistrate of Dwarka Division has said that the society has not been sealed. On the other hand, one positive case was found at Dwarka Sector — 7 Godavari Apartment. The test results came on Friday. The patient’s wife and daughter’s reports have come out negative at the moment. According to residents, sanitizati­on process has started. “The man has been kept in isolation at his own home as the case is mild.
