GLOBAL VIRUS TOLL CROSSES 2,44,000

WASHINGTON DC: The novel Coronaviru­s has infected 3.4 million people and killed more than 2,44,000 worldwide, including leaving more than 66,000 dead in the United States, according to a count by Johns Hopkins University.

Europe has seen more than 139,00 confirmed virus deaths, with more than 28,000 each in Italy and Britain and around 25,000 each in France and Spain.

Health experts warn that a second wave of infections could hit unless testing is expanded dramatical­ly.

SINGAPORE

Singapore on Sunday recorded 657 new Coronaviru­s cases, most of whom are foreign workers, taking the total number of COVID-19 infections to 18,205.

“The number of cases amongst migrant workers has been fluctuatin­g in recent days due to clearance of backlogged cases by one laboratory,” the Health Ministry said.

PHILIPPINE­S

The number of Coronaviru­s cases in the Philippine­s climbed to 9,223 after the Health Ministry reported 295 new infections on Sunday. The ministry also recorded four more deaths related to COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronaviru­s, bringing the tally to 607.

Another 90 people recovered, it added, bringing total

recoveries to 1,214.

RUSSIA

Russia on Sunday recorded its highest daily rise in confirmed Coronaviru­s cases with 10,633 new cases, bringing the total to 134,687, with more than half of cases and deaths in Moscow. Russia's nationwide death toll rose to 1,280 on Sunday after 58 people died in the last 24 hours, Russia's Coronaviru­s crisis response centre said on its website.

INDONESIA

Indonesia reported 349 new Coronaviru­s cases, taking the total number of infections in the Southeast Asian country to 11,192, health ministry official Achmad Yurianto said on Sunday. Yurianto said 14 new coronaviru­s-related deaths were confirmed, bringing the total to 845.

MALAYSIA

Malaysia reported 122 new confirmed cases of the novel Coronaviru­s on Sunday, taking the cumulative total to 6,298 infections.
