Bois Locker Room: Group admin arrested, police expand probe
NEW DELHI: After two days of questioning members of the “Bois Locker Room” Instagram group, apprehending one juvenile member and arresting the 18-year-old administrator of the group, the Delhi Police Cyber Crime Cell has now decided to expand its investigation considerably to include checking for similar circuits on other social media platforms.
On Wednesday, the police here said they had made the first arrest in the case, which came to light on Sunday when a woman revealed the existence of the group where boys as young as 13 or 14 were found to be sharing explicit images of women and girls and making threats of sexual violence.
The arrested accused has been identified as a Class 12 student from a private school in Noida who had appeared for his board exams just this year.
Officials here added that one of the minor boys in the group had disclosed the identity of the group chat administrator when questioned.
“The apprehended juvenile said that they knew the admin only through Instagram and that not all of the group members were known to each other,” sources told Millennium Post, adding that the boy’s testimony is also being examined.
In addition, sources have now said that several of the boys admitted to the existence of many other groups like the one being investigated. “So, we are now considering writing to other platforms for information about this matter,” said the official, who is part of the probe team.
Meanwhile, two Supreme Court advocates have written to the Delhi High Court Chief Justice asking the court to take suo motu cognizance of the case and monitor the investigation.
