Delhi records 428 cases in 24 hrs, tally reaches 5,532

NEW DELHI: With record 428 new Coronaviru­s cases reported in a day, the total positive cases reported so far in Delhi reached 5,532 on Wednesday, the Health Department said.

With one death in the last 24 hours, the death toll due to Coronaviru­s reached 65, it said. A total of 74 patients recovered on Wednesday, according to the Delhi health bulletin.

“A total of 1,542 patients have recovered so far in Delhi while 3,925 cases are active,” the Health Department said.

So far, 71,934 tests have been conducted in Delhi. On May 3, 427 new cases were reported in a day.

With one more zone decontaine­d on Wednesday and no addition in the list, the total number of containmen­t zones in Delhi dropped to 87. According to the Delhi government, East Delhi’s Gali Number 9 of Pandav Nagar, which was sealed on April 2, has been de-contained.

After an area is declared a containmen­t zone by the district administra­tion, the Delhi government starts ‘Operation SHIELD’ - Sealing, Home Quarantine, Isolation and

Tracking, Essential Supply, Local Sanitisati­on and Doorto-door Checking — to control the spread of the virus.

On Tuesday, the government had de-sealed B1/2 Paschim Vihar and area around B-333 in Hari Nagar in west District. The Delhi government’s updated list on Monday witnessed removal of area around G-174, Capital Greens, DLF, Moti Nagar, area around 11/3, 2nd floor Ashok Nagar and area around 36/4, East Patel Nagar. These three areas fall in West district. On Sunday the Delhi government had de-sealed two areas- Bengali Market in New Delhi district and House number 97 to 107 & House number 120 to 127, Kailsh Hills in East of Kailash.

The Delhi government’s updated list on Saturday had witnessed removal of J&K, L and H pockets Dilshad Garden, G, H, J blocks Old Seemapuri. With this total number of decontaine­d areas reached five. Interestin­gly no new containmen­t zone has been added for three consecutiv­e days.
