COVID-19: Death toll rises to 2,109, cases climb to 62,939; 19,358 recovered so far

NEW DELHI: With 3,277 new cases in the last 24 hours, India on Sunday recorded total 62,939 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the number of cured patients climbed to 19,358 after 1,511 new recoveries recorded in a day. Also, with 128 new deaths in the last 24 hours, the death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 2,109.

Notably, it’s for the fourth day in a row that India reported above 3,000 positive cases in the last 24 hours.

Of the total confirmed cases, which include 111 foreign nationals, the number of active COVID-19 cases stood at 41,472. The recovery rate has improved to 30.76 per cent from 30 per cent.

Meanwhile, the ICMR has conducted total 16,09,037 tests so far, out of which highest ever 85,824 tests are conducted in a day at total 472 labs, which include 343 government labs and 129 private labs.

Of the total 128 deaths, which were reported in the country since Saturday morning, Maharashtr­a registered 48 deaths followed by Gujarat (23), Madhya Pradesh (15), West Bengal (11) and Uttar Pradesh (8). Other states that reported deaths include five each in Rajasthan and Delhi, four in Tamil Nadu, three in Andhra Pradesh, two in Punjab and one each in Telangana,

Haryana, Chandigarh and Assam.

Of the 2,109 fatalities, Maharashtr­a tops the tally with 779 deaths. Gujarat comes second with 472 deaths, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 215, West Bengal at 171, Rajasthan at 106, Uttar Pradesh at 74, Delhi at 73, and Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu at 44.

According to the health ministry data, Maharashtr­a reported the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases at 20,228,followed by Gujarat at 7,796, Delhi at 6,542, Tamil Nadu at 6,535, Rajasthan at 3,708, Madhya Pradesh at 3,614 and Uttar Pradesh at 3,373.

The number of Coronaviru­s cases has gone up to 1,930 in Andhra Pradesh, 1,786 in West Bengal and 1,762 in Punjab. They have risen to 1,163 in Telangana, 836 in Jammu and Kashmir, 794 in Karnataka, 675 in Haryana and 663 in Bihar.
