India crosses 70K-mark, Health Min says nation’s mortality rate among the lowest in the world
NEW DELHI: With 3,604 fresh cases in a day, India on Tuesday crossed the 70,000mark as the total tally climbed to 70,756, while with 1,538 new recoveries in the last 24 hours, the number of cured patients rose to 22,455 and 87 new fatalities were reported as the toll reached 2,293. However, the recovery rate has improved to 31.74 per cent.
According to Union Health minister Harsh Vardhan, the country’s COVID-19 mortality rate is among the lowest in the world at around 3.2 per cent while the recovery rate has climbed to 31.74 per cent.
“In the fight against COVID-19 our mortality rate is the lowest in the world. Today the mortality rate is around 3.2 per cent, while in several states the mortality rate is much lesser than the national average, while the global fatality rate is around 7 per cent to 7.5 per cent,” Vardhan said.
The ICMR, on the other hand, has conducted a total of 17,59,579 tests so far at 484
labs, including 348 government labs and 136 private ones. Notably, after a sudden dip in the testing, the ICMR scaled up its testing to 85,891 in the
last 24 hours.
Of the total 87 deaths, which were reported in the country since Monday morning, Maharashtra registered 36 deaths followed by Gujarat (20).
Of the 2,293 fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 868 deaths. Gujarat comes second with 513 deaths, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 221. Maharashtra reported the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases at 23,401.
