SHO tests positive for COVID-19, total 167 cases in Delhi Police

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police SHO of Lajpat Nagar police station in south-east Delhi tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

According to Police, five others have been sent for quarantine and further contact tracing is being done. On Wednesday, another Sho-rank officer from Dwarka district tested positive for Coronaviru­s. Meanwhile, three policemen from Shahdara district have also been tested positive for COVID-19. This takes the total number of positive cases in the Delhi Police to 167. Police said that 47 have successful­ly recovered.

Earlier, an Additional DCP rank officer in the Delhi Police had been tested positive for COVID-19. Along with him, two more staff members have also been found positive. After the report of the test came, he was immediatel­y sent for home quarantine.

Recently, nine police personnel posted at Sultanpuri police station, tested positive for the virus and were admitted to AIIMS hospital (Jhajjar) for further treatment. As per protocol, their contacts are being quarantine­d and the police station has been disinfecte­d.

The Delhi Police also organised a webinar with doctors to answer the query of the policemen who are on the frontline of COVID-19. The doctors through video conferenco­ing took the questions of the policemen and answered their querries.

DCP Central Sanjay Bhatia too participat­ed in the online discussion. This is said to inform the police force about the myths and reality about the pandemic and the various ways to deal with it.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old head constable allegedly shot himself dead in Dwarka Sector-16 police complex. Police said that no suicide note was recovered.

The incident was reported around 6 pm on Thursday when the policeman shot himself at his home in Dwarka. Police is probing the case from various angles including family dispute. “He was native of Himachal Pradesh and was posted at IGIA police station,” official said
