One more migrant worker commits suicide in Ggm

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

GURUGRAM: Even as thousands of workers have been sent back to their home states from Gurugram, it seems there is still more to be done by the government agencies for the welfare of the workers.

On Monday, one more migrant labourer identified as Madhusudan Mishra reportedly committed suicide. The deceased belonged from Khurda, Odisha.

According to law enforcement, the reason for his suicide was continuous harassment by his landlord for payment of rent. As Madhusudan did not have any work, he could not pay. This is third death as of now being reported from Gurugram ever since the lockdown begun.

There are also reports of a

large number of workers still not being able to get registered to leave for their home states thus forcing them to cover long distances on foot. Despite several assurances, the government agencies in Gurugram have not been able to take strict action against the landlords, who are forcing the workers to pay the rent or against those companies which have not paid the salaries to their workers.

Hundreds of workers of Shivam Autotech, an auto ancillary firm in the outskirts of Gurugram walked around 30 kilometres to their company on Monday as the company was unable to provide them transportation citing financial constraints.

The workers, contractual as well as permanent, were asked to report on duty from May 18 by the management but they could not provide buses to the workers.

Facing uncertainties, most of the workers are working overtime in the factories so that they can earn more money.
