Senior doctor at AIIMS dies of Covid-19

NEW DELHI: A senior doctor at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi died of COVID-19 on Saturday.

Professor JN Pande was the director and professor of the Pulmonolog­y department at the premier hospital where people infected with COVID-19 are being treated. Pande was former HOD and Doyen of Medicine at AIIMS in Delhi.

Dr Sangita Reddy, a senior doctor in Delhi, confirmed Dr Pande’s death due to COVID19. “Deeply saddened to hear that today COVID-19 claimed its most illustriou­s victim, Dr JN Pande, Director and Professor of Pulmonolog­y, AIIMS, New Delhi. A stalwart of the medical world, his work in pulmonolog­y will continue to ensure better health for many. My Condolence­s to his family,” she tweeted.

Meanwhile, the night shelter at AIIMS, which saw 21 positive cases, also witnessed a positive case traveling to her state. “A positive patient’s mother had traveled to Bihar before her reports came out. It was later revealed that she is positive,” said an official.

Inspection of the night shelter has been ordered by the Delhi High Court. Meanwhile, the hospital witnessed an increase in the movement of patients since the government allowed an ease in lockdown rules. The hospital, which was mostly catering towards covid patients, has once more started to see a flow of patients.

The OPD services are yet to start, but a group of people can already be seen occupying spaces for their treatment. However, even as more people are coming in doctors have started checking patients in private ward. Cancer patients whose medical services had stopped also resumed. Ram Kumar, is standing outside the hospital with his daughter. Choti is suffering from blood cancer. Kumar travels from Noida to AIIMS for his daughter’s treatment, which has started again.
