Firemen save 20 people in Gujranwala Town

NEW DELHI: 20 people were saved by Delhi Fire Services (DFS) from a fire reported from a three-storey building in Gujranwala Town on Wednesday.

According to Delhi Fire Services (DFS), they received a call around 5.10 pm after which three fire tenders rushed to the spot. “It was revealed that fire was in electric meter board at the ground floor,” the official said. In a video of the incident, a fire official was heard telling residents not to panic. So far nine fire incidents have been reported from Delhi. Atul Garg, Director of the DFS told Millennium Post that the building had only one escape route which led to the staircase. “The electric metre was installed near the staircase which caught fire it was the timely effort of firemen which saved 20 lives,” he said.

Fireman injured: A fireman was injured while trying to douse a fire that broke out in an office in West Delhi’s Vikaspuri on Tuesday. LPG cylinders kept in the office exploded during the fire-fighting operation and one of the firemen got trapped and suffered injuries.

Over 100 children affected in Tughlaqaba­d fire: According to the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), over 100 children were affected by the fire and they were provided with relief materials including 500 hygiene kits, 1, 000 nutrition kits for children and lactating women under Delhi Against Malnutriti­on campaign. “Few people have also left the place after incident and have moved to other places,” a DCPCR official said. Presently the affected families were living in tents. Ranjana Prasad, Member, DCPCR said that they are closely monitoring the situation in Tughalaqab­ad. “The most vulnerable are children who lost their homes in the fire incident. We are in close coordinati­on with the district administra­tion and civil society organizati­ons,” she said.
