Delhi records massive spike in cases; 792 fresh infections take tally over 15K

NEW DELHI: In a highest ever surge of COVID-19 patients in a single day; Delhi recorded as many as 792 cases till Tuesday midnight. With this the number of cases also reached 15,257 in the city. As per the official data available, Delhi has a total of 7,690 active cases of COVID-19.

Delhi has been reporting 500 or more fresh cases every day for more than a week except Tuesday’s report which has witnessed 412 new cases. However, this is the first time that the national capital has recorded over 700 cases in a day.

Number of deaths in the city jumped from previous 288 to 303 as 15 more deaths have been added in the list. The report, however, said that the cumulative death figures refer to fatalities where primary cause of death was found to be the infection, as per the report of the Death Audit Committee on the basis of case sheets received from various hospitals. Tuesday’s data had witnessed death of 12 people in a day period while in Monday’s data, death of 25 people was recorded which was second highest in a day. Sunday’s data had recorded 30 deaths, highest in a day.

The Delhi government’s data said that among the total 15,257 positive cases, only 7,690 cases or 50.42 percent cases are active cases so far. Out of these active cases, 3,878 cases of 50.43 percent patients are at home-isolation after detect

ing very mild and mild symptoms and advised by the Health Department. These patients have been recuperati­ng at homes under supervisio­n of health staff, as claimed by the government earlier.

In remaining patients, 2,118 are admitted at COVID hospitals, 124 patients at dedicated COVID health centres and 482 at COVID care centres. A total of 191 patients are in ICU while 32 are still at ventilator­s in various hospitals. LNJP, RGSSH, LHMC, RMLH, SJH and AIIMS (Delhi and Jhajjar) were the leading dedicated Covid-19 hospitals housing the most number of Delhi’s positive patients. A total of 602 patients are admitted at LNJP, 523 at both the hospitals of AIIMS located in Delhi and Jhajjar, 198 at SJH, 125 at RGSSH and 186 at Max hospital. A total of 5,783 tests were also conducted at various testing centres across the city in a day period and the total number of tests reached 1,84,362 from previous 1,78,579. As far as recovery rate is concerned, Delhi is still ahead than national average. Since 310 people recovered on last 24 hours, total number of recovered patients reached 7,264 in the city. The recovery rate is now 47.62 percent.

Meanwhile, with de-containmen­t of four more areas, total number of de-contained zones has reached 45 from previous 41. The latest list has also witnessed addition on more area in containmen­t zone’s list following which total number of such areas has reached 91 in the city.

According to the list, area of A-280 in Madipur, area of C-785, third floor, camp number-2 in Nangloi, RZ-168, K2 block, Nihal Vihar and G-1 second floor, Mansarowar Garden have been de-sealed since no case has been reported for the last few weeks in these areas. Meanwhile, Tilak Vihar area in Tilak Nagar has been added in the list of sealed hotspot after detecting fresh COVID19 cases.
