Khan Market’s Lok Nayak Bhawan sees more cases as 5 more ED officials test +ve

NEW DELHI: Lok Nayak Bhawan, which houses many central government offices, in Delhi’s posh Khan Market area has now started to see several more cases of COVID-19 as five more officials of the Enforcemen­t Directorat­e posted there have now tested positive for the contagious disease. Sources here said that cases in the ED offices of Lok Nayak Bhawan started increasing after the first case was detected late last month. “That official used to go to many places within the fifth and sixth floors of our offices,” one source in the know said.

Other sources said that with these cases, the ED headquarte­rs has now recorded a total of six positive cases. After the first junior official tested positive a few weeks back, one senior official had said that no area of the office had been sealed yet.

At the time, the official had disclosed that the junior official had last visited the office many days ago. However, among the fresh five positive cases, sources said at least one is an Assistant Director-level official and one other is a senior IRS officer posted as a Special Director in the agency.

While sources in the know said that a senior staff working directly under the ED Director had attended office even on Friday. One source said that as of Friday evening, there appeared to be no section of the office that had been cordoned off or sealed. Multiple attempts to reach the ED Director and other senior officials of the agency were met with no response.

In fact, the sources added that cases have also started appearing in the Income Tax Settlement office which is on the eighth and ninth floor of the same building.
