59-year-old Delhi Police SI dies due to COVID-19
NEW DELHI: A 59-year-old Sub-inspector (SI) of Delhi Police died on Tuesday due to Coronavirus. So far, five Delhi Police personnel have lost their
lives to COVID-19. According to police, they have received information from the Army Base Hospital that the policeman, who was on ventilator support for the
last five days, died on Tuesday morning. He was a resident of Brijpuri in Gokalpuri and is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son, who works with the Indian Railways posted in Mumbai. He also had diabetes.
Earlier, four deaths were reported from Delhi Police in which one of them was an ex-army man, was deployed as a fingerprint expert in the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch, whereas another was posted at the Sultan Puri police station. Police said that in both cases the exact source of infection was not clear. The Delhi Police reported its first COVID-19 fatality earlier in the month when a 31-year-old constable, posted at the Bharat Nagar police station in northwest Delhi, had succumbed to the disease.
500 affected, 200 recovered:
Around 500 personnel of the force have been infected with the virus so far. A total of 200 of them have recovered, according to Delhi Police. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) who had tested positive for Coronavirus
last month, joined office after recovering from the infection on Tuesday. “I thank everyone for the prayers and good wishes. I have joined back today. Thank you,’’ she tweeted. Senior officers in Delhi Police were also affected by the virus. On June 1, an Additional DCP rank officer in Central Delhi was tested positive for COVID19. According to police, his operator also tested positive. Sources said that a DCP rank officer in Delhi Police posted in Rashtrapati Bhavan had also tested COVID-19 positive. The Additional DCP of Shahdara tested positive for COVID-19. Later, he recovered from the virus and joined back the duty. So far Delhi Police staff who were deployed in security of ex-prime Minister, ex-chief Minister, former police commissioner have tested positive.
