Greater Noida Authority to appoint sector nodal officers for earthquake preparedness
GREATER NOIDA: In the wake of recurring earthquakes and thunderstorms in the past couple of months, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) is working on strategies for disaster management and has now proposed a slew of measures to make sure the district is prepared in case a major quake hits the city.
According to officials, a nodal officer will be appointed who will ensure a quick response and proper co-ordination between district administration, police and other authorities in case of any natural calamities so that proactive actions can be taken.
“It has been decided to divide Greater Noida city into two zones and a zonal officer each will be appointed. Inside these zones, a sector/village in charge will be appointed in every sector and village for disaster risk-mapping and will also generate awareness, preparedness and community training. A team of volunteers from the local community will also be formed who will be properly sensitized and skilltrained about precautions and actions required to be taken in case of a calamity,” said a senior GNIDA officer. The officer further said that notices to all the unsafe structures and illegal construction in the city will be issued and actions will be taken accordingly. The meeting to discuss disaster management strategy was done through video conferencing which was chaired by CEO GNIDA Narendra Bhooshan.
