Man tied to e-rickshaw and beaten to death

NEW DELHI: A man was tied to an e-rickshaw in the Nizamuddin area and was beaten mercilessl­y with rods and pipes on suspicion of theft in the wee hours of Tuesday. The man identified as Gautam, had bruises all over his body when the police found him. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The accused, identified by police as Mehtab, has been arrested.

On June 16, a PCR call was received at Police Station Hazrat Nizamuddin about a murder in DDA Park Baba Bhure Shah Dargah. On this informatio­n the SHO Hazrat Nizamuddin along with staff rushed to the spot and found a dead body of a male person. On local enquiry, he was identified as Gautam, a resident of Gautam Puri, Delhi. On inspection, bruises over the chest, back and thighs were found and murder case was registered.

“During the course of investigat­ion, it was revealed that in the wee hours on June 16, one Mehtab a resident of Sarai Kale Khan, Delhi caught the deceased on suspicion of theft of his mobile phone. The accused tied him with an e-rickshaw and beat him with iron rod and plastic pipes. One plastic pipe, plastic tape type rope and iron rod used in the commission of crime were also recovered,” DCP South East RP Meena said. The 41-year-old accused Mehtab is illiterate, as per police and has three children. He runs a battery charging shop near DDA Park Baba Bhure Shah Dargah and was earlier involved in another case of simple hurt.
