Modi govt responsible for violent face-off with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley: Cong

JAIPUR: The Congress on Wednesday held the Narendra Modi-led central government responsible for the violent face-off with Chinese troops at Galwan Valley in Ladakh wherein 20 Indian soldiers were martyred.

Prime minister Narendra Modi and his government is quiet now. The country had not expected that the government's silence of 40 days will result in this, AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala told reporters at a hotel here.

The country had to see the heart wrenching day due to the failure of the Centre, he said. Saying that China captured India's land and soldiers got martyred, Surjewala asked what did the prime minister and defense minister do except for keeping silence.

He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other opposition leaders have often urged the Centre to come clean on the situation at the border and how much area the Chinese had captured.

But a careless and failed government kept busy in conspiracies to topple the governments of opposition parties and hid the truth of the border from the country. The priority of the BJP government is not the country, but rule of the party, he alleged. Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also charged that the situation along the India-china border was due to the “diplomatic short-sightedness” of the Narendra Modi government, and said it was time that the prime minister proves that he has “a 56-inch chest”.

The leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha said the rhetoric of muscular nationalism witnessed during the time of standoff with Pakistan is now missing.

Congress leader M Veerappa Moily said that the national leadership must explain how the situation at the India-china border in eastern Ladakh deteriorated to the extent of a violent clash, and alleged that the Defence Minister gave the impression that the de-escalation process was going on smoothly.

India should galvanise international support to de-escalate the present situation to defeat China's “sinister move”, the former Union minister said in a statement.

Senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah dubbed as “seditious” and “anti- people”, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ‘silence' on violent clashes along the Sino-indian border.

He also levelled similar allegations against Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on the Indo-china conflict.

“It's almost seven weeks since the border disputes started with China.

However, till now the Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Defence Minister Rajnath Singh did not give any official statement. The silence of the rulers is not only anti-people but also seditious,” Siddaramaiah tweeted.
