NEW DELHI: It seems there is no immediate sign of decline in the new cases of Coronavirus as India on Friday saw another record spike of 13,586 fresh COVID-19 cases in a single-day pushing the tally to 3,80,532, while the death toll rose to 12,573 with 336 new fatalities.

However, the good news is that the number of recoveries crossed the two lakh mark and presently stands at 2,04,711 at the rate of 53.80 per cent. There are 1,63,248 active cases.

India registered over 10,000 cases for the eighth day in a row. The country has witnessed a surge of 1,89,997 infections from June 1 till 19 with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh among the top five states that have seen a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, the ICMR has tested a total of 64,26,627 samples of which 1,76,959 samples have been tested on Thursday that is the highest number of tests done on a day so far. Commenting on the increase in recovery rate, a senior official said, “The increase in the proportion of recovered cases is a demonstration of India’s strategy of timely management of COVID-19.” “Proactive measures like implementation of lockdown, sensitisation of the general public to COVID appropriate behaviour by the Centre in coordination with the states/uts, have significantly restricted the spread of the virus,” the official said. Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of cases at 1,20,504 followed by Tamil Nadu (52,334), Delhi (49,979), Gujarat (25,601), Uttar Pradesh (15,181), Rajasthan (13,857) and West Bengal (12,735).
