GURUGRAM: Speaking on the situation of COVID-19 cases in Gurugram, top officials of District Administration on Friday officially acknowledged that the number of cases would show no signs of slowing down in the coming months, adding that the NCR city would clock 1.5 lakh cases by the end of August. Dr Veena Singh, Director of the District Health Department said that the coming two to three months are going to be crucial.

However, top officials have already said that prospects of another lockdown in Gurugram are not being considered as they insisted that there is no community transmission in the district. They added that they are making all efforts to handle over 1 lakh cases.

“All our standard operating procedures are in place. Enough manpower is also available to deal with the large number of patients. We are adept in dealing with a huge number of COVID-19 cases,” said Dr Singh. Several measures were announced by the officials to prevent the further spreading of the COVID-19 in Gurugram. Like in Delhi, officials confirmed that rapid antigen testing would also be undertaken in Gurugram so that those who have been infected with the virus can be quickly detected and then isolated.

An official order of reducing testing rates from Rs 4,500 to Rs 2,400 was also passed. To ensure that enough healthcare workers are available to tend to the patients, public officials urged civil defense volunteers to participate in various nursing activities. It was also announced that more testing centers will be opened in the city. There was also an announcement of the rapid response team for contact tracing. The officials also mentioned the possibility of turning some stadiums in Gurugram into isolation centers.

With the stigma around COVID-19 emerging as a major problem, the District Administration also stated that the help of religious leaders, prominent citizens of Gurugram and even politicians will be urged to motivate patients who have got infected with COVID-19 to come and report their health status.
