Ggm ropes in RWAS for surveilling senior citizens and children prone to infection
GURUGRAM: Taking into account the rising number of cases of COVID-19 in Gurugram the District Administration has now sought the help of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAS) to try and identify vulnerable people with health issues and are suffering from major ailments like diabetes or cardiovascular diseases so that they can be isolated.
Not just the old, but the district administration has also asked RWAS to survey vulnerable children who may be prone to the infection.
Through this exercise, the District Administration plans to conduct tests and if found positive, provide timely treatment to these patients. Top officials highlight that if this cooperative exercise is successful it would help in not only saving more lives but would also aid in protecting more people against the contagious disease.
“It is ultimately the teamwork that is going to help us win over COVID-19. We want to quickly trace those people who have health issues so that extra care can be taken for them. We have asked the RWAS to make our team aware of such people. Our focus is right now on containment zones but gradually we are going to be undertaking this exercise in all parts of the city,” said VP Singh, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).
Talks of cooperating with RWAS come at a time when the District Administration is already in the process of setting up large isolation centres in the city.
Besides banquet halls, vacant buildings and even a part of the Bhondsi jail complex, there are also some residential societies where these centres are expected to come up. There are however many RWAS that have publicly protested the move of setting up the isolation centres in their neighbourhoods. What can add to the challenge for the public officials is the fact that there are a large number of deaths of those COVID-19 who did not have any comorbidities.
