DU kicks-off admissions
NEW DELHI: Amid a raging pandemic, the coveted Delhi University admissions began on Saturday but with a few tweaks in light of the new world order imposed by the novel Coronavirus, one of the major ones being that the entire process has been made accessible through the internet.
Significantly, the practice of deducting 5 per cent marks for changing streams into Bachelor of Arts courses has been scrapped, with officials saying that it was based on an assumption that science students score more than humanities students. Dean of Admission Shobha Bagai said that the rule makes no sense anymore as all studies were interdisciplinary now.
Moreover, the University has also streamlined admissions to ensure a single admission form for all colleges affiliated to the varsity and made all document verification online.
In addition, DU has replaced its Open House with a webinar as well.
Furthermore, trials for Extra-curricular Activities (ECA) category have been scrapped with music students now having to send their auditions through video submissions.
ECA admissions will also now be available only for NCC and NSS students and those applying under sports quota would be assessed on an exam and awards. For applicants in sports, an aspirant can register for a maximum of three games/ sports.
DU offers admission under the sports quota in 27 disciplines including archery, athletics, cricket, football, badminton, hockey, swimming, wrestling, tennis, judo, and basketball, among others.
The University, however, has kept the supernumerary seats in the category intact. An additional registration fee of Rs 100 will apply in ECA category in addition to charges for (UR/OBC/ SC/ST/PWBD/EWS) registration, it said
