‘Time for unity & solidarity; relaunch of ‘scion’ can wait’

- OUR CORRESPONDENT

NEW DELHI: In a stinging attack on the Gandhi family of the Congress, BJP president JP Nadda on Wednesday said that a dynasty and its courtiers have “grand delusions” of the opposition being about itself and stated that a "rejected and ejected" family is not equal to the entire opposition.

In his tweets, Nadda said that it was the time for unity and solidarity, and the “relaunch of the scion for the nth time can wait”, an apparent dig at Rahul Gandhi, who has been aggressive in his attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his handling of the border row with China. Nadda further said that India lost thousands of square kilometres of land due to the “misadventures of one dynasty” and claimed that the Siachen glacier, where the Indian Army has a strong presence, was almost gone. No wonder India has rejected them, the BJP chief said.

The BJP president also posted a news report to back his assertions about Siachen.

“One 'royal' dynasty and their 'loyal' courtiers have grand delusions of the Opposition being about one dynasty. A dynast throws tantrums and his courtiers peddle that fake narrative. Latest one relates to the Opposition asking questions to the Government,” Nadda said. Though he did not directly name the Gandhi family or any of its members, the reference was clear.

The BJP'S national president said that it was the opposition's right to ask questions and added that the all-party meeting called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi saw healthy deliberations, with several opposition leaders giving their valuable inputs.

Reacting on Nadda's charges, the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at the Modi government over the increase in fuel prices and the mounting Covid-19 cases in the country, saying that it has “unlocked” the coronavirus pandemic and petrol-diesel prices.

"The Modi government has 'unlocked' the corona pandemic and prices of petrol-diesel," he said in a tweet.

Hitting back at BJP national president, Congress leader Manish Tiwari has asked JP Nadda to look at their “conduct” as opposition party during the UPA rule.

“The BJP should not hide on the back of the army,” he said, adding that the BJP should look back its conduct when it attacked the government on delicate foreign policy issues during the UPA rule. “Will the Prime Minister offer a public apology for BJP for its conduct during 20042014 when BJP brought noconfidence motion on Indo-us civil nuclear deal and Bhagat Singh Koshyari leading a delegation to India-china border,” Tewari said.
