Situation in Delhi under control: CM

Says cases rising as tests have increased; no need to panic

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said COVID-19 cases in the Capital were increasing as the Delhi government had significantly increased testing here over the

last few weeks and despite tests increasing threefold, the daily increase in the number of cases is not proportional. He added that the situation in Delhi is under control and that there is no need to panic.

The Chief Minister said: “As of today (Friday), there are 74,000 Corona cases in Delhi, but if we try to comprehend these cases, I would say that the situation is under control, it is worrisome but there is no need to panic.”

Kejriwal elaborated that till a few days ago, the AAP

led government was conducting around 5,000-6,000 tests daily, of which around 2,0002,500 cases were found positive. “We have seen that even if the testing has increased threefold in the last few days, the

Corona positive cases have only increased from 2,000 to 3,0003,500. If in the coming days, we will conduct 1-2 lakh tests daily, it is natural to observe a spike in the number of Corona cases,” said Kejriwal. “A favourable thing is that of the 74,000 cases, around 45,000 cases have recovered, which shows that people are recovering from Corona swiftly. There have been around 2,400 deaths due to Corona and out of the 26,000 active Corona patients in Delhi, only 6,000 people are in hospitals. The rest of the cases are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, and are recovering in home isolation,” he added.
