6,555 new Covid cases take Maha’s count to 2,06,619

With death of 151 more patients, state’s fatality rises to 8,822

MUMBAI: Maharashtr­a's COVID-19 tally rose to 2,06,619 on Sunday with the single-day spike of 6,555 new cases on Sunday, the state health department said.

With the death of 151 more patients, the state's fatality count rose to 8,822, it said. The state had registered its biggest single-day jump of 7,074 coronaviru­s cases on Saturday.

A total of 3,658 patients were discharged from hospitals post recovery on Sunday, which took the number of recovered persons to 1,11,740 so far, the department said in a statement. Of the total number of 151 deaths reported during the day, 69 were from Mumbai alone, while 20 from Pune.

Out of the total 6,555 new cases, the Mumbai Metropolit­an Region, including Mumbai city, accounted for the highest 3,941 cases, taking its total to 1,45,769 and death toll to 6,401 deaths.

Mumbai reported 1,287 positive cases, which pushed its case count to 84,524. Its death toll so far was 4,899.

In the MMR region, Thane city and Kalyan Dombivali, were the worst-hit with 11,959 and 10,400 cases respective­ly. Pune city reported 882, Aurangabad city 195, Pimpri Chinchwad 176, Nashik city 171, Kalyan Dombivali recorded 596 new cases.

The recovery rate in the state is 54.08 per cent, while the fatality rate is 4.27 per cent. Currently, 6,04,463 people are in home quarantine and 46,062 are in institutio­nal quarantine.

There are 86,057 active cases in the state at present.

So far, 11,12,442 people have been tested across the state, it said.
