Ubuntu Make 16.05 released with updated Android Studio

-

Ubuntu Make 16.055 is the new version of the open source CLI tool that enables Android developments on the Ubuntu platform.

Days after the arrival of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus), developers have now also got Ubuntu Make 16.05. The new version comes with an updated Android Studio and is preloaded with a tweaked Android SDK.

Didier Roche, the developer behind Ubuntu Make, announced the new release through his official Twitter account. It is touted to come ‘with a lot of awesome fixes’ to deliver an upgraded development experience.

Ubuntu Make 16.05 debuts as a new maintenance release of the open source CLI tool that was previously known as Ubuntu Developer Tools Center. It is designed to help developers work on third-party SDKs and IDEs right from an Ubuntu machine.

To offer an advanced Android development platform, Ubuntu Make 16.05 adds OpenJDK 8 to the improved Android SDK. However, the dependency on OpenJDK for the Arduino IDE has been removed.

Roche has provided support for the Netbeans IDE to let you install the new Ubuntu Make version right on your Ubuntu 16.04 LTS running system. Also, there is a fix for some local issues within tests.

You can install Ubuntu Make 16.05 on Xenial Xerus directly from GitHub. In addition to the latest version, the new Ubuntu Make can be installed on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) and Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf). You need to enter a repository command to enable the installation on a previous Ubuntu machine.
