UNIHEALTH DEVELOPING SKILLS, DEVELOPING HEALTHCARE: BRIDGING THE DIVIDE

- DR. AKSHAY PARMAR, Founder & Managing Director DR. ANURAG SHAH, Founder & Director Unihealth Consultancy Private Limited

For many in underserved populations around the globe, basic healthcare remains out of reach due to lack of infrastructure, medical supplies, and skilled professionals. UniHealth, through its innovative approach, is working to bridge this healthcare divide and empower local communities across underdeveloped and developing nations in Africa and Asia. By setting up hospitals and medical centers under its flagship brand, ‘UMC Hospitals’, the Group is making healthcare accessible to those who need it most while facilitating knowledge transfer and developing skills to help build self-sustainable, long-lasting infrastructure for the local populations.

The Consultancy Services vertical of the Group is helping build technologically advanced patient-friendly hospitals in a cost-effective manner in multiple geographies across Asia, Middle East and Africa. The cumulative bed-strength of hospitals under various stages of planning and execution being assisted by UniHealth exceeds 1500 beds, with the Group being the Lead Project Management Consultant for a single-site Health City Project of 500 beds in Pune, India.

To plug the long-standing supply-demand gap in essential medical supplies, the Group has recently ventured into distribution of medical consumables and pharmaceuticals in select African countries and is the authorized distributor of leading Indian manufacturers like Reliance Lifesciences, Levram Lifesciences, Hemant Surgical and Unisur Lifecare in these countries.

The Group presently operates a combined capacity of 200 tertiary care beds across its hospitals in Uganda and Nigeria. UMC Victoria Hospital, its flagship facility in Kampala, Uganda, is the largest private sector hospital of the country. UMC Zhahir Hospital, it’s tertiary care facility in Kano is the largest private sector hospital in Northern Nigeria.

Guided by its mission, UniHealth has invested and set-up hospitals and medical centers in strategic locations to make tertiary care healthcare services accessible to surrounding communities that previously lacked access. All facilities set up by the Group are equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed by well-trained doctors and nurses.

We have key focus on knowledge transfer and skills development as part of our overall vision. Our facilities serve as training hubs where local healthcare professionals gain valuable experience through mentorships, internships and skill-development programs.

Telemedicine and outreach camps further extend our reach into remote areas. By leveraging technology and mobility, we have been able to diagnose and treat patients who cannot easily access our facilities. These innovative solutions are helping bridge the healthcare divide in populations that need it most. We collaborate with local governments, healthcare organizations, and corporate companies to fully understand regional needs and tailor solutions.

UniHealth is committed to sustainable change. By expanding access, building capacity, fostering innovation and collaboration, we aim to strengthen healthcare systems across the geographies that we work in and create a future of healthier communities. As we expand our presence in India and in newer geographies across Africa and Asia, to achieve our aim to set up a cumulative capacity exceeding 1000 beds by Year 2025, the UniHealth Family of 500+ overcomes differences of geographies, languages and cultures and unifies with the single motto of bridging the healthcare divide.
