EMC: Open Video Surveillance-as-a-Service

An all-inclusive IP camera system that integrates with a wide range of digital cameras

-

EMC offers an inexpensive surveillance service, that does not require the client to maintain any server infrastructure on-site, only the cameras are used for recording. This solution provides a video management software, along with recording and streaming servers, that can be scaled depending on the demand of the client. The advantage with this solution is that management of video infrastructure can be done remotely, releasing restrictions for the administrator to be on-site. As it is an all-inclusive IP camera system that integrates with a wide range of digital cameras, so a variety of hardware can be used. Other vendors restrict hardware used to their own proprietary cameras. The jury liked its ability to integrate heterogeneous mixture of cameras, unlike other solutions which require standard equipment. However, they

felt it is not very unique and there are similar solutions available in market.

USP: An all-inclusive IP camera system that integrates with a wide range of digital cameras, so a variety of hardware can be used. Other vendors restrict hardware used to their own proprietary cameras.

Technology Used: The cloud service is built on VMware’s virtualization technologies optimized for EMC storage. The video mgmt software that is deployed at the Edge is written in C. The central mgmt software is written in C and Java. The web application is written in Adobe Flex.

Impact: Still in “go-to-market” phase, so none so far
