Beautifully crafted device with decent performance
Honor keeps playing with the designs, whether you look at the first Honor device or the new 5C, no similarities can be found in terms of design. The new design not only gives a fresh feel to consumers but they also manage to attract a different group of buyers.
New cool design: The new design aesthetic grabs our eyes first and then, its fairly balanced body that holds 5.2-inch screen added more flavor to its overall feel. Handling the device using one hand is like child’s play. Though nowadays most of the devices are hosting 5.5inch screen and few brands managed to fit the screen in a shell that doesn’t feel large, still holding a 5.2-inch device after a long time gives us a pretty nice feel. The back panel is made of metal with a brushed finish on the top. Sides are round in shape having thin lines across the edges, making it more pretty as well as enhances the grip. But the front doesn’t have any wow factor, as it has the simple glass panel to protect the screen from smudges and scratches.
Good display to enjoy games and videos: The phone hosts a 5.2inch screen with 1080x1920p resolution. It produces rich colors with natural tone. The bright screen lets you operate the phone in any light condition, even in direct sunlight, you can play with the phone without any trouble. You can enjoy games and movies on the device with your friends and family as the viewing angles are great.
Talking about sound, the speakers are placed on the bottom. The device lets you enjoy music and videos, etc as it produces loud and clear sound. Call quality is also good, whether you are one speaker or earpiece.
Good camera: At this price, we have seen smartphones having a better primary shooter. Honor 5C is equipped with 13 mp camera at the rear, which captures images with details in good light conditions, but in low light conditions produces grainy images. Even after using the flash, you can notice the visible noise. The front 8 mp camera is good for selfie and groupie; and we can say it’s similar to most of the front shooters available today.
The camera UI has some modes and functions to capture moments in different shades. Besides, there are two - slow motion and pro modes are available for enthusiasts.
Decent performer: The Honor 5C review unit comes in gold which looks rich and offers decent experience while playing with the device. The phone is packed with 1.7 GHz quad-core HiSilicon Kirin 6250 processor and combined with 2 GB RAM. The phone manages all the applications and games efficiently without and visible performance lag. We stuffed the phone with various apps and games and used it for more than three weeks. It runs on Android M with a customized EUI 4.1 skin top of it. The customization gives you a nice experience and it’s quite user-friendly as well, but notifications are annoying. It has a health app that tells you about the steps taken and all the time it comes popping up with the details. Unfortunately, there is no option to turn them off.
It has a fingerprint sensor at the back, which can save multiple entries. The sensor recognises the finger quickly and easily. We don’t remember any event when it wasn’t able to unlock the device using the right finger.
Battery Life: Honor 5C has 3000 mAh battery which can last for a day with moderate usage, playing games, browsing the Internet and attending calls, etc. But if you like to be online and play lots of games then it won’t last for the day. In our battery loop test, it lasted for 5 hours and 12 minutes watching videos over the Internet with full brightness and volume levels.
Bottomline: Having 5.2-inch screen and beautiful shell, the phone fits easily in one hand. It runs smoothly and has no performance lag, though notifications can annoy you.
